ACTIVE TRAVEL

During the pandemic, we had a glimpse of what the world might be like if there were fewer cars on the
road. Many people started walking or cycling as part of their daily exercise but also as a safe way to
travel.

REPLACE ONE CAR JOURNEY PER WEEK WITH ACTIVE TRAVEL

Replacing even one car journeys with active travel can have a huge benefit. Not only will you reduce your personal carbon footprint, you can also enjoy your journey. Meet new people, get to know your area, appreciate the environment, the weather, enjoy the bird song and the changing seasons. Active travel gives you so much more than getting you from A to B.

PLAN YOUR SHOPPING

66% of all trips are less than 5 miles and most trips between 1 - 5 miles are by car.
If you have to use the car, make your journey as efficient as possible. A cold engine uses twice as much
fuel as a warm one so plan your journey, instead of doing lots of smaller trips, combine them into one trip.

SLOW DOWN TO SAVE FUEL

Think about your driving style and speed, did you know that driving at 50mph  instead of 70mph increases fuel economy by 25%! If you have a car that measures your fuel economy see if you can improve this with every trip.

Don’t let your engine idle.
