THE IMPACT

Everything we use every day, whether it is a washing machine or a mobile phone, has required precious natural resources and energy from fossil fuels to manufacture and to transport. Just buying less new stuff can have a massive positive impact on our carbon footprint and save us money at the same time!

BUY SECONDHAND

  • ​Try out swapping and resale apps like eBay and Vinted â€‹

  • Our local charity shops are a treasure trove for clothes, toys and books

  • Set up a WhatsApp group with local friends, baby groups, garden groups or others with shared interests  to pass on unwanted items

  • The Council Reuse shop in Llanfoist sells items such as plant pots, step ladders and homewares  

  • You can find furniture, bikes and many other items are at Monmouthshire upcycle in Chepstow

  • Homemakers in Abergavenny sells furniture ​

REPAIR WHAT YOU CAN

  • The Repair cafe will fix your items for free

  • Challenge yourself to repair it yourself - you can often find often excellent videos YouTube which can show you how to fix anything under the sun!

BORROW DON'T BUY

  • Library of things allows you to borrow large items like power tools for a reasonable fee

  • Your local library is the first port of call  for books and with Borrowbox you can use e-books and audiobooks, all for free.
